Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's ODI Lineup Against Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series facing India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock selection.

Performance Issues Lead to Omission

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad after scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes

There have been indications of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia search for a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
